On Saturday things went a little bit crazy as reports started to emerge that Riyad Mahrez wanted to leave Leicester and Arsenal were his preferred destination.

This was a direct contradiction of what Claudio Ranieri had said only a few days ago when he claimed that Mahrez was happy and would stay at Leicester. Given how right he was about the Jamie Vardy debacle, we thought it wise that we listen to him this time.

So what do we know?

Despite almost blanket internet coverage, the Mahrez reports all stemmed from a single source – Eurosport.fr. According to Get French Football News, the journalist who produced the report isn’t one known for transfer gossip, so there’s that.

Mahrez’s agent, Kamel Bengougam, was at the Arsenal game against Lens on Friday. He claims it wasn’t anything to do with transfers.

What don’t we know

Claims that Arsenal will pay €50m come from the French report but the report on Eurosport is literally the only place this rumour came from.

This whole thing comes down to whether you believe them or not, especially when it’s being claimed that Arsenal agreed terms with the player before Leicester.

That’s not how these things are done.
