Arsene Wenger believes that international breaks, a.k.a. the interlull, is actually a good thing for the players’ confidence.
Speaking ahead of our Premier League clash against Watford on Saturday, Arsene Wenger spoke about the positive impact having successful international breaks can have for Arsenal players.
“It is always good when the players come back [from international duty] with a positive experience as it is good for that confidence,” he said.
“We finished just before the break with a good game and I think both vibes together will help us with the game tomorrow.”
This is one way to look at it. Unfortunately, as Arsenal fans, we’ve grown used to hating most international breaks, not only because they’re pretty boring but because more often than not about six of our players will return with missing legs. We’re already several men down and we don’t want to lose more just because of some friendlies.
I do see what Wenger’s saying though. For many players, representing their countries is the most important aspect of their career and allowing them to do something they’re proud of can only be a good thing. Luckily, this time around we got all our players back in one piece.
