Arsene Wenger has revealed that he’s ‘disappointed’ in the Aston Villa board for sacking Remi Garde.

Villa sit stone-bonkers last in the Premier League with just 16 points from 31 matches. However, Wenger believes that since Garde was appointed as a long-term manager, they should have stuck by him.

“It’s disappointing,” Wenger admitted.

“When he was appointed it was more of a long-term appointment at the time. Villa were in a very weak position to remain in the Premier League and I think he considered that they could go down.

“Unfortunately he wasn’t given the time to rebuild the team and have a go at coming up again next season. Villa have been unstable with their managers over the recent years.

“They’ve used many, many managers and it’s a good demonstration that [changing managers] is not a good solution to being successful.”

The former Arsenal player only got one season in the Premier League to prove himself after only previously managing Lyon. Although Wenger has never been in quite the same position at Arsenal, as he’s always managed to, at least, get us Champions League football, he has come under fire over the years.

The issue is, sacking a manager at this time in the season is pointless. The chances of Villa getting enough points from their remaining matches to stay in the Premier League is slim-to-none and perhaps sticking with Garde could have at least given them some stability going into next season. Now we’ll never know.
