You probably saw what Danny Mills said on Tuesday.

Looking to rile Arsenal fans, former England right-back Mills has named Robert Pirès as the sole reason players in England dive. Mills seems to think that no dive had ever occured in the English game before Pirès arrived, and the Frenchman imported a ‘foreign’ tactic which has taken off ever since.

This baffling overlooks Jürgen Klinsmann, whose reputation for diving at Tottenham was so strong that he celebrated a goal with a ‘dive’ celebration in 1994…four years before Pirès became an Arsenal player.

Why on earth would Mills hate Arsenal the French players he faced in north London? Maybe because they made a mockery of him on the pitch.

Time to get over it, Danny.
