Real Madrid currently sit six points behind Barcelona in La Liga after 12 games and lost to their rivals by 4-0 on Saturday.

After such a loss, the manager is already being called into question. However, Wenger has weighed in on the debate after being linked with the job and confirmed that a) he’s not going to Madrid and b) he supports Benitez 100%.

Speaking ahead of our Champions League match, Wenger said, “I would just like to take this occasion to support completely Rafael Benitez, who is an outstanding manager.

“I think it would be not serious to sack the manager after 12 games. I hope he will get the support of Florentino Perez.”

Wenger will be able to sympathise with Benitez after having his own ability called into question countless times during his reign at Arsenal. It’s nice to see managers sticking up for each other for a change, rather than taking cheap shots and playing mind games.

On another note, at least Wenger has nipped any rumours he might be leaving for Spain in the bud. The fact that he’s even been linked with such a job shows just what a brilliant manager he is.
