Kevin Doyle won’t be joining Arsenal at Christmas.

I know, I know.

The Wolves man who has crazily been linked with Arsenal in seasons past has just signed for MLS side Colorado Rapids, the side owned by Stan Kroenke and will move on a free when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Appearing on Soccer AM over the weekend, the front man was asked if he would be joining Arsenal at Christmas in the fashion of so many other players who have joined the MLS, and the Irish man responded

“I’m going to have a nice Christmas off.

“Ten years without being in Ireland, I’m going to have a nice few weeks at home with the family.”

About his decision to join Kroenke’s other side, Doyle explained

“They [Colorado] showed an interest.

“My wife was due — she had a baby a couple of weeks ago — and we have a two-year-old. So when I heard about it, I was like ah no I can’t move my kids to America, they’re too young.

“But they said listen, come out and have a look. So I said okay and Wolves were good enough to let me go, I went for two days. Class, facilities are unreal. So they sold it to me and I can’t wait to start.

“It’s just a change.

“I’ve been in England 10 years this end of the season. I’ve played in the different leagues so I thought I’d like to try something different.

“When Robbie [Keane] comes back with Ireland, especially at the beginning everyone’s like ‘what’s it like’. And everyone’s very keen; even with me and the lads at Wolves, everyone wants to know about the MLS. It seems to really be interesting people.

“Robbie’s full praise for it and he’s done fantastic since he’s been there. To do something like that would be nice.”

So there you go. A player whom no-one even considered would be joining Arsenal, won’t be joining Arsenal.

With the international break, it’s that sort of slow news day.
