Former Eibar midfielder Joan Jordan has signed for Sevilla, after links to Arsenal this summer led to nothing.

After Aaron Ramsey’s departure from Arsenal was confirmed, one of the players the club were linked to as a replacement was Joan Jordan. The 24-year-old had a €15m release clause and reports suggested the Gunners were ‘in position’ to activate it.

Then, the links went cold, and Arsenal appeared to be more interested in other targets. It’s therefore not too much of a surprise to see that Jordan has now officially completed a transfer to Sevilla instead.

Jordan has signed a four-year deal with Sevilla, becoming their third arrival of the summer. According to Marca, he cost them €14m, one million euros short of his release clause. Espanyol received 20% of that transfer fee as per a sell-on clause.

Sevilla’s new signing is a set-piece specialist with a strong long shot and good chance creation and dribbling abilities. The Spaniard is not so confident finishing chances or helping out defensively, so perhaps he wasn’t the right player for Arsenal anyway.
