Diego Simeone has extended his contract with Atletico Madrid, hampering the chances of him replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. And fans weren’t happy with the news.

Simeone is one of the most respected managers in Europe after transforming Atletico Madrid into a title-winning team and Champions League finalists on two occasions. His team are famed for their defensive organisation and gritty approach to matches, something that the Arsenal fans have been craving for a while.

However, any chance of the Gunners signing him to replace Arsene Wenger took a big hit after he extended his contract with Atletico Madrid. It’s safe to say that the fans were disappointed by this news.

Simeone could walk into any job around the world but has shown a lot of loyalty and commitment to Atletico. He’s a legend at the club, having played for them when he was a player and bringing the trophies in as a manager.

The Argentine guided the La Liga giants to two Europa League trophies, the La Liga title and two Champions League finals. Prying him away from the Vicente Calderon will be no easy task.

Of course, before that we need Wenger to leave Arsenal, which won’t be happening until 2019 at the earliest it seems.
