After Santi Cazorla was left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the new Premier League season, Gunners fans say they want Jack Wilshere to replace him in the midfield.

That’s according to a poll run on Twitter, where fans were asked whether to play Wilshere or keep him out of the team. Over half of the fans who responded said Arsenal should play the 25-year-old as soon as possible.

The general feeling among fans on social media is that the current midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey aren’t living up to expectations. Whether this is because they don’t work well together, they aren’t good enough, or simply because the system doesn’t support them, fans want to see some sort of change.

Before the transfer window closed, it was hoped that the Gunners might bring in reinforcements in this area of the pitch. However, with no new signings made in the final few days, it’s now down to Wenger to find one of those ‘internal solutions’ he loves to talk about.

If the Arsenal fans are right, Wilshere could be this solution. The English international looked sharp in his games for the academy after returning from a season-long loan at Bournemouth. One did end in a fight, a red card and a suspension, but that was more fight than anyone showed later that week against Liverpool, I feel.

After more than a year since his last senior game for the Gunners, maybe it’s time to give the playmaker another shot.
