Everton Football Club, commonly known as Everton or “The Toffees,” is a professional soccer club based in Liverpool, England. The club was founded in 1878 and is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in English football. They have competed in the English football league system since its formation and are currently playing in the Premier League which is the top tier of English football.
Everton has had a great deal of success throughout its history. They have won the English First Division (now known as the Premier League) nine times, the FA Cup five times, and the Charity Shield/Community Shield (shared with another team) 15 times. They also have 4 second-place finishes in the premier league and 3 times third place.
The team plays its home matches at Goodison Park, which has a capacity of just over 39,000. The club has a large and passionate fan base and their main rivals are traditionally considered to be Liverpool, matches between the two teams are known as “The Merseyside Derby” and are some of the most watched and most intense matches in English soccer.
Over the years, many of the world’s best players have played for Everton, including legends such as Dixie Dean, Alan Ball, Howard Kendall, and Wayne Rooney. The team is currently managed by Carlo Ancelotti. Despite the financial constraints in comparison with other teams in the league, Everton are known for their consistency and always aim to be in the European places.
