Arsenal Women’s forward, Gio Queiroz, has officially signed with Atletico Madrid until 2027, following the termination of her contract with the Gunners.
Queiroz, a promising Brazilian talent born in 2003, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Madrid CFF, where she impressed with nine goals and one assist in 16 matches.
After starting her footballing journey at Atlético Madrid’s academy in 2014 when her family arrived from Florida, Gio moved to Barcelona in 2020 and then to Arsenal in 2022. Loan spells at Everton and Madrid CFF, where she had spent time before her move to Barcelona, followed, with the latter seeing her rediscover her top form in the Spanish league.
Despite recalling Queiroz from her loan spell due to injuries to Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema in the 2022-23 season, Arsenal ultimately did not include her in their Champions League squad. Subsequent loan options fell through, leaving Queiroz unregistered for the first half of the current season.
About her move to Atletico Madrid, Gio said, “I was already here when I was younger. This is an historic, very big club and I’m looking forward to starting with the team now.” She has signed a deal until 2027.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign 21-year-old Swedish attacking midfielder Rosa Kafaji from Hacken, according to Tim Stillman.
Kafaji, who has impressed in the Champions League and the Swedish national team, is attracting significant interest with Chelsea, Lyon, and Barcelona also linked. Arsenal, however, are currently the frontrunners to secure her signature.
This potential signing follows the additions of Mariona Caldentey and Daphne van Domselaar to Arsenal‘s ranks this summer.
