Miedema, who returned to action with Arsenal last season after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, underwent a minor procedure on her knee earlier this week.

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor described the surgery as “really minor” and said that it was addressing a “slight niggle”.

Taylor expressed optimism that the procedure would assist Miedema in her ongoing recovery, saying: “After discussions with the surgeon, he decided to do a small procedure and I think it’s really going to help Viv.”

Elsewhere, Cloé Lacasse, now with Utah Royals FC, has been placed on the season-ending injury list after sustaining an ACL rupture and MCL sprain during a recent NWSL match against Angel City.

Since suffering the injury on 20 October, Lacasse has undergone successful surgery and will continue her rehabilitation with the Utah Royals’ medical staff. Lacasse’s absence is expected to extend into the 2025 season.

Lacasse joined Utah Royals this summer from Arsenal, seeking more playing time to secure her position with the Canadian national team.

Despite her short time in the NWSL, she quickly became an integral part of Utah’s attack, scoring four goals in just nine matches, including the club’s first-ever hat-trick.

Lacasse had initially signed with Arsenal in 2023 from Benfica but found regular first-team opportunities limited.

She made 28 appearances for Arsenal, registering five goals, but ultimately sought more consistent game time.
