Arsenal forward Alessia Russo has been named the ‘England Women’s Player of the Year 2023-24 connected by EE’, following a season where her performances for both club and country stood out.
The award, determined by a public vote, saw Russo emerge as the standout choice ahead of her England teammates Lauren James and Lucy Bronze, who finished second and third, respectively.
Russo, who joined Arsenal in 2023, has made an indelible impact at the North London club while continuing her impressive form on the international stage. Over the course of the 2023-24 season, Russo started 11 matches for the Lionesses and scored six goals, a haul that saw her also receive the team’s ‘Top Goal Scorer award for 2023-24′.
Her contribution was pivotal in helping England secure qualification for UEFA EURO 2025 in Switzerland, with Russo scoring three crucial goals in the six qualifiers she started.
The 25-year-old was surprised with the Player of the Year accolade at St. George’s Park by her brother and parents, who handed over both of her awards in a heartwarming moment that was captured and shared across the Lionesses’ social media channels.
Russo’s contributions on the pitch have underscored her value to Sarina Wiegman’s side, not just in her goal-scoring capabilities but in her link-up play and versatility.
She remains a key figure in England’s setup as they prepare for their upcoming international fixtures against Germany at Wembley Stadium on Friday, 25 October, followed by a match against South Africa in Coventry on Tuesday, 29 October.
