St. Johnstone youngster Callan Hamill spent time with Arsenal over the summer on a trial that was initially expected to last a week, but ended up going on for a month.

After playing in an Arsenal academy friendly against St. Albans in early July, Hamill went on to feature for the Arsenal u18s in a 5-2 win over Brentford, then another u18 game against Paderborn late in the month.

But Hamill is ineligible to sign for Arsenal at this stage, and he was back with St. Johnstone for an u18 match on Friday evening. He featured in a 3-0 win for the team against Dunfermline, hitting the bar with a header from a corner.

Just 15 years old right now, Hamill will be free to sign for Arsenal at the end of the current campaign, if that’s what all parties decide is the best move.

The Athletic previously confirmed that Hamill’s visit was with a view to a transfer next summer, though they added that Rangers and Celtic are also interested in the signing.

St. Johnstone also rate Hamill highly, and they remain keen for him to sign a professional contract when he’s eligible next year.

The youngster is a Scotland u15 international as well as playing for St. Johnstone’s youth teams, making his international youth debut in late 2023.

Hamill has gone on to feature for the Scotland u15s four times, all of which were starts at centre-back, but he can also operate as a full-back.
