Arsenal have three players in the BBC and WhoScored Teams of the Week after Sunday’s victory over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal secured a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur to keep their title hopes alive on Sunday, remaining top of the Premier League table whilst casting nervous glances back at Manchester City and their game in hand.
Winning the league is still out of Arsenal’s hands, but at least it wasn’t their north London rivals who ended their chances, and a victory away in a derby is an end in itself.
On that note, it was nice to see three Arsenal players named in the BBC’s Team of the Week, selected by Garth Crooks.
As above, Crooks picked William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz for his team.
On Saliba, Crooks argued that the Frenchman had “held his nerve” when his teammates had started to wobble, suggesting it’s “no coincidence” that Arsenal are challenging for the title with Saliba staying fit.
Crooks went on to praise Saka for producing a significant mismatch up against Ben Davies. The pundit wrote that Saka “ran Davies ragged”, before leaving “to a standing ovation from the Arsenal fans”.
As for Havertz, Crooks reluctantly conceded that Havertz is “a different player for the Gunners than he was at Stamford Bridge”, adding that he “proved to be a handful against Spurs”.
Havertz was the only one of the three players to make the WhoScored Team of the Week, earning an 8.53 rating.
WhoScored’s Sam Hammond highlighted the forward’s goal and assist, as well as the eight aerial duels and two free-kicks he won, and the two chances he created.
