Arsenal are among the clubs after Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson, whose first-choice destination is the Premier League.
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reports that Arsenal are among a number of teams to have Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson on their summer shortlist.
Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla, Atalanta, and Borussia Dortmund are all reportedly interested in Nelsson as well, but the player’s first-choice option is a move within the Premier League.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet recently reported that Arsenal had entered the race to sign Nelson, adding that Tottenham Hotspur were close to agreeing a deal for the player.
The Gunners have reportedly been keeping an eye on Nelsson for a while now, and he has a release clause of €25m.
Arsenal appear to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer, in light of the team’s struggles following the injuries to William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Though Saliba is expected to be back fit in time for the new season and Tomiyasu shouldn’t be out for too much longer than that, their injuries highlighted the frailty of the squad in defensive areas.
With Arsenal’s return to the Champions League next season, and the likely resulting increase in minutes for the first-choice lineup, the team can’t afford to fall apart after just a couple of injuries at the back.
Nelsson made 35 appearances for Galatasaray this season, as they won the Super Lig with the assistance of former Gunner Lucas Torreira.
The 24-year-old is also a Denmark international, making 10 appearances for his national team so far.
Nelsson played at the World Cup against finalists France, and he went on to start both of their European Championship Qualifiers in March.
