Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in 25-year-old Frankfurt and Switzerland midfielder Djibril Sow, according to a report.
Bild Plus in Germany report that Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest are all interested in the possibility of signing Djibril Sow from Frankfurt in the January transfer window.
Frankfurt aren’t keen to let the midfielder go, but they know they’re running out of opportunities to cash in on the player. His deal expires in 2024, so his value is only likely to decrease from here on.
As for the player himself, he wants the move to England, further putting pressure on his club to sell.
Arsenal have a bit of a link to Sow already through Granit Xhaka, as the two players know each other well. They’ve started every match for Switzerland together at the World Cup so far, and they’ve regularly played alongside one another over the last couple of years.
As well as Switzerland, the two players were also briefly on the books at Borussia Monchengladbach at the same time, though Sow was very young and still playing for their second team at that time.
Since 2019, Sow has been playing for Frankfurt, notably winning the Europa League with them last season.
Arsenal are reportedly on the lookout for a midfielder in the January window, with strong links to Danilo of Palmeiras but reports suggesting other names are also in the frame. Perhaps Sow is one of those players.
