Arsenal Youth report that Zane Monlouis has been training with the Arsenal u18s this week as he builds his fitness following four months out of action. Though he’s set to rejoin the u23s when he’s back to full health.

The 18-year-old centre-back last featured for Arsenal in a Premier League 2 game against Leicester City on November 6th.

Arsenal have had some real problems with injuries in defence lately.

In one match in February they were forced to name a back four with a left-back, two right-backs at centre-back, and a midfielder at right-back.

That situation has improved slightly in the last couple of weeks, with the return of Mazeed Ogungbo and Alex Kirk. Omar Rekik should also be back before long.

But Monlouis’ comeback is certainly another bonus for the squad.

Whilst the Arsenal u23s are second in the league and having a pretty good season, they’ve been hit hard by absences all year.

Whether it’s the loan departures of key members of the side or the injuries and suspensions for players in positions without backups, almost every lineup feels makeshift in one way or another.

With just five games of the u23 season remaining, it would be nice to see some consistency in the final weeks to round things out.
