Bernd Leno will be given permission to leave Arsenal this summer, with the club already having agreed a deal for his replacement.

Bernd Leno – Arsenal, APRIL 29, 2021: UEFA Europa League Semi-finals 1st leg match between Villarreal CF 2-1 Arsenal FC at the Estadio de la Ceramica in Vila-Real, Spain.

The Athletic report that Arsenal will grant Bernd Leno permission to leave in the summer, with Matt Turner set to join the first-team squad as the German goalkeeper’s intended replacement.

Arsenal agreed deals for a couple of MLS players in the January transfer window, with Auston Trusty joining on a permanent deal before going back on loan to the Colorado Rapids, whilst Turner will officially join in the summer.

The two deals are very different, though, as Trusty is one for the future whilst Turner is expected to play an active role immediately.

Trusty will go out on loan again next season, with Arsenal planning to send him out into mainland Europe.

Turner will link up with Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad in place of Leno.

In the latter stages of the January transfer window, various reports linked Leno with a move, but it didn’t happen.

Perhaps that was connected to the fact that Turner won’t be joining for another few months, and Arsenal need Leno as a backup right now.

Simon Collings previously reported that Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were two of the clubs thought to be tracking Leno.

The player’s agent told Standard Sport: “Of course we get a lot of requests from clubs for Bernd.

“Bernd has always behaved very well at Arsenal and has shown strong performances. That’s why it’s quite normal.

“But we won’t comment on every request, Bernd has an ongoing contract until summer 2023.”
