A number of clubs are interested in signing Konstantinos Mavropanos next summer, and Stuttgart may activate his purchase option just to sell.

Bild report that Stuttgart are considering activating Konstantinos Mavropanos’ purchase clause in his loan deal from Arsenal so they can sell him on for a profit.

Stuttgart’s purchase option is £3m, with bonuses of up to £1.5m, but they’re reportedly hoping to sell him for £20m.

West Ham United, Newcastle United, and Borussia Dortmund are all in competition for the defender, should that scenario arise.

Stuttgart will be obligated to pay the £3m clause either way if they remain in the Bundesliga, as that was one of the terms of the loan. If they get relegated, they’ll have the option to turn it down.

But if they believe they can make a quick profit, they may well activate the option even if they do go down.

As things stand, Stuttgart’s status as a Bundesliga club is certainly under some threat. They sit just one point above the relegation play-off place, even after two wins in their last three games.

Funnily enough, centre-back Mavropanos is Stuttgart’s top scorer this season, and he has more goals this campaign than in the rest of his senior career combined.

The defender has mostly managed to avoid his usual injury problems, though he did miss a couple of weeks in late October and early November.

Given those improvements on his previous seasons, it’s no wonder he’s drawing more interest now.
