Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis could have joined Arsenal recently, and he’s admitted he used to support the club, but not anymore.

Emmanuel Dennis has been one of the breakout stars of the Premier League season so far, scoring seven goals (fourth in the league) and assisting five (fifth in the league) in 15 games despite playing for a struggling Watford side in 17th.

The player’s agent told the media that Arsenal were interested in the past, but Club Brugge were demanding a “ridiculous” fee for him at the time.

The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United were willing to pay £15m, but Brugge wanted £25m.

It was frustrating to Dennis himself, who later ended up moving to Watford for just £3.4m as his contract ran down.

It was probably particularly maddening to see Arsenal priced out, as Dennis admits he used to be an Arsenal fan. Though he says he’s had to give that up for his health.

“I used to be an Arsenal fan. I like Cesc Fabregas,” Dennis said. “But I’m no more an Arsenal fan. I was so much into Arsenal sometimes I could cry when they lose. That wasn’t good for me.

“So I was like, ‘nah, I’m going to stick to myself and don’t care much because it’s not good for my health’. It’s just me and myself right now.”

Fortunately, Dennis came back to haunt United with a goal and a couple of assists, whilst he blanked against Arsenal.

We’ve managed to escape the inevitable “former transfer target scores against Arsenal” headlines for now.
