Arsenal confirmed the results of their latest Player of the Month poll on Thursday, and Takehiro Tomiyasu was the emphatic winner of the fan vote.

Tomiyasu received 51% of the votes, despite being up against Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It shouldn’t be a huge surprise that a defensive player ended up winning the award for the month. Tomiyasu came into the team and helped Arsenal keep two clean sheets, conceding just one goal in September.

The Japan international was particularly impressive in the air, winning 14 of his 16 aerial duels.

There were many standout players against Spurs, but Tomiyasu was certainly one of them. Despite Spurs’ rather fortunate late goal, the right-back did an excellent job of shutting down a number of counters and clearing up the danger in front of his goalkeeper.

Tomiyasu did help Arsenal keep another clean sheet to kick off October, though it was in more underwhelming fashion in a draw with Brighton. Still, he’ll be very pleased with his start in the Premier League at the back.
