Aaron Benn has confirmed his summer move to Watford FC, after being released at the end of an eight-year spell with Arsenal.

Writing on Instagram, Aaron Benn confirmed he’s signing for Watford, posting a farewell message to Arsenal.

“After 8 years at this amazing club, my journey with this club has come to an end,” Benn wrote. “I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for everything and allowing me to develop as a player and as a person on and off the pitch.

“This includes the coaches and medical team who have played an important role in my development over the years. Finally, I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future.”

As we covered last month, 16-year-old Benn was told he was being released by Arsenal in May, the day after scoring a brace for the Arsenal u18s against Reading.

That game was his debut at u18 level, albeit not an ordinary game, as both sides had agreed to play younger teams. Benn had also had some injury problems earlier in the campaign that may have influenced Arsenal’s decision.

But primarily, the decision was probably based on the fact that Arsenal are close to the limit in terms of the number of u18s they’re allowed, so they have to make some tough choices.

It certainly seems like Benn has Arsenal at heart, given he turned up at the Emirates Stadium to support the team from the stands even after he was released. So we wish him all the best with Watford, who recently became a Premier League club again.
