Arsenal fans face an anxious wait on news about Kieran Tierney’s knee injury but the defender’s face probably told us all we needed to know.

Although Kieran Tierney tried to insist he could play on after picking up a knee injury, his protestations didn’t last long and the look on his face as he trudged off was one that told us all he will not be back on the pitch any time soon.

I could be wrong, of course, but as Twitter lipreaders pondered if Tierney had really said ‘I heard it pop’, Injury Mechanisms tweeted:

Speaking after the game, when it was obviously too soon to know anything concrete, Mikel Arteta said, “He felt something in his knee. He was in pain so it looks like he will be injured but we don’t know how long for.”

Tierney certainly hasn’t had the best of luck with injuries since joining Arsenal last season.

He has already missed 28 games prior to this, including six games from January 19 because of another knee problem.

While at Celtic, Tierney didn’t fair much better, although he didn’t suffer any knee problems. He missed 55 games across four seasons meaning the 23-year-old has missed 83 games because of injury problems since the 16/17 season.

That is, to say the least, more than a little concerning.
