Zech Medley scored his first professional goal to earn a point for loan club Kilmarnock on Saturday, and he was almost involved in a winner.

Arsenal defender Zech Medley moved on loan to Kilmarnock in the January transfer window, but results haven’t gone their way so far. In his first four games, they didn’t score a single goal.

The centre-back took matters into his own hands against Dundee United, turning home after a corner for 1-1.

He was then involved in a smart set-piece move, losing his marker and chipping the ball in behind, but the resulting goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. You can watch the goal and the set-piece move from 1:20 here.

Although it didn’t lead to a win, Kilmarnock will be pleased just to pick up a point after their recent run of defeats. Medley admitted he was pleased to get a goal and end the team’s goal drought after the game.

“It was great to get a point on the board and get the goal,” Medley said. “I know there’s been a bit of a drought recently and it was good to put an end to that and now we want to push on next week.

“I knew I was going to go to the back post, Nicke got the flick on and I’ve managed to keep calm and put it in the bottom corner.”

It looks like Medley has quickly nailed down a spot in the team for Kilmarnock, and this weekend’s performance will do no harm to his chances of retaining it.
