With the League One season coming to an end on Saturday, a few Arsenal loanees have played their final games of 2023/24.

Saturday was the final day of the League One regular season, with only the play-offs still to come in May.

Arsenal had three loanees playing in the division, and none of them will be involved in the play-offs, so all three saw their campaigns end this weekend.

We’ve already covered Tyreece John-Jules’ end to the season, with the striker returning from injury marginally too late to feature for Derby County as his side achieved promotion to the Championship.

Thanks to those injuries, John-Jules ended up making 14 appearances for Derby, playing 375 minutes and scoring two goals.

But what about the other two League One loanees?

Khayon Edwards has spent the last few months on loan with Leyton Orient, joining the club on February 1st.

The striker made the squad for 15 of Orient’s 18 games in that period, but he only appeared on the pitch in seven, starting four times.

Orient had a mixed record in Edwards’ starts, winning two and losing two, and he didn’t get off the mark on the scoring front.

This was Edwards’ first taste of senior football, so he’ll have learned a lot from the experience regardless of his limited minutes. But the 20-year-old will hope his next loan is to a club whose manager has a little more faith in him.

Zane Monlouis was the third Arsenal loanee in League One, joining Reading on February 1st.

At first, it seemed like Monlouis was going to need to ease his way into the Reading team, as he was named in their first few squads on the bench and made a substitute appearance against Fleetwood Town.

But that turned out to be his only appearance for the remainder of the season.

There have been no reports of an injury, and on the contrary, Reading boss Ruben Selles recently suggested that Monlouis is training well. He simply decided not to select the Arsenal youngster.

Monlouis ended up playing more minutes for the Reading u21s than the first team.

Between the three loanees, it hasn’t been a good season for Arsenal players in League One football. They’ll all hope for more minutes in 2024/25, and the Gunners perhaps need to be more careful with their loan decisions next season.
