Reiss Nelson is available to leave Arsenal on a loan basis before the end of the current window, according to David Ornstein.
Speaking on The Athletic’s Ask Ornstein series, David Ornstein reported that Reiss Nelson is available to leave Arsenal in the current transfer window on loan.
We’re still at a very early stage in the process, so there are no transfer talks going on with potential takers just yet. But Ornstein expects plenty of clubs to come in for him, and it’s likely a move will happen in the next couple of weeks.
The odds are certainly stacked against Nelson in terms of regular games this season. He hasn’t even made a Premier League squad yet, with Willian, Aubameyang, Pepe and Saka to contend with. That’s before Martinelli gets back and makes things even harder.
Nelson finished the 2019/20 campaign in strong form. He scored his first league goal in the win over Liverpool, and he was having a positive impact whenever he came onto the pitch.
The winger scored on international duty with the England u21s this month, he scored in pre-season against MK Dons, he looks ready for regular games. But he just has such strong competition right now at Arsenal.
We’re all hoping Nelson can become the player he promised to be in his breakthrough u23 seasons. He just needs a chance to progress by starting for a club every week.
With the debate around Reiss Nelson’s future going on today, here’s a throwback comp of his PL2 Player of the Season campaign with the u23s in 17/18.
He was the star as Arsenal won the title. If he finds this form in senior football it’s over #AFC pic.twitter.com/zr8RRjzshp
