Everton midfielder Ross Barkley remains absent this pre-season amid uncertainty over his future at the club.

  • Everton have said that Barkley is injured and receiving treatment
  • He refused to sign an extension at Everton
  • Everton want £50m for him, with Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are reported to be interested

The attacking midfielder has yet to be involved in any of Everton’s pre-season games as he is currently receiving treatment for a groin injury. That is, at least, the story coming from Everton.

While he could be genuinely injured, he could also be “injured” as he sorts out his future. Barkley declined a contract extension at Everton and is very much for sale should the right offer come in. According to reports, Everton want £50m for him.

Even for the cash-rich Premier League clubs, this price is outrageous given the player has just a year left on his contract and was largely inconsistent last season. Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have all been linked with Barkley but will be reluctant to pay Everton’s lofty valuation.
