Barcelona’s attempt to sign PSG’s Marco Verratti could have an influence on Arsenal’s business this summer.

• Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Rafinha and Arda Turan have all been linked with Arsenal this summer

The Italian midfielder is one of Barcelona’s top targets this summer and should they sign him, it would mean at least one of their many undesirable midfielders would have to make way.

One scenario, according to Mundo Deportivo, is that Portuguese midfielder and first season flop, Andre Gomes, could move to Arsenal for £30m. Arsenal have apparently had an interest in Gomes, and could now have the opportunity to sign him.

Gomes is just one of Barcelona’s midfielders that have been linked with Arsenal this summer. Arda Turan, Denis Suarez and Rafinha have also been linked at various points.

Arsenal do need another midfielder due to the long-term absence of Santi Cazorla. As it stands, Aaron Ramsey is the only attacking central midfielder in the squad and he has a history with hamstring injuries.

Whether that midfielder will come from Barcelona, though, remains to be seen. Arsenal have passed up on their castaways before. Them signing Verratti shouldn’t change that.
