Liverpool player ruled out of Arsenal match with new injury

Liverpool’s Jeremie Frimpong is set to be out until the November international break due to injury, meaning he’ll miss their upcoming game against Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola provided a double injury update on Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai on Monday, providing good and bad news.

The good news was that Szoboszlai hasn’t suffered a significant setback to his hamstring, despite being forced off in his first game back from injury. Iraola has suggested the midfielder is roughly where he was before, and though he might miss the next couple of games, he should be fit after that.

Frimpong’s situation is less positive, and the Liverpool manager is expecting it to be difficult to see the player back in action before the November internationals.

“I think they are different circumstances,” Iraola said. “Jeremie Frimpong is obviously a new muscle injury and it happened, I think, in the second or third minute he was playing, difficult to predict and we will have to wait until he recovers.

“But it’s going to be difficult, I think, before the [November international] break. We will try but it’s going to be difficult to have him.

“Dom Szoboszlai is different. It’s not a new injury, I think it’s in the same place it was probably last week. He hasn’t worsened the injury but probably we have to be a little bit more patient until he recovers fully.

“But it’s not like something now where he has to wait a lot of time to come back, he is more or less in the same situation he was last week.”

The distinction between the two injuries is a relevant one for Arsenal, as the Gunners travel to Anfield on November 1st. It appears likely Szoboszlai will be fit to play that game, and Frimpong won’t be.

Liverpool’s fixtures prior to that match are all at Anfield, including a Champions League match against Villarreal, a Premier League game against Brighton, and a League Cup match against Chelsea.

After Arsenal’s visit, Liverpool will then play away to Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before the international break begins.
