Arteta suggests Arsenal 28yo ‘still not there’ despite improvement

Mikel Arteta insisted Bruno Guimaraes is still not the finished article following Saturday’s win over Hull City, adding that he’s told the midfielder as much.

Bruno Guimaraes made a start in an important win over Hull City on Saturday, sending Arsenal into the international break on a positive note.

But when asked about the Brazilian following the game, Mikel Arteta insisted that whilst there have been signs of improvement for the midfielder, he still has a way to go to reach the level he’s capable of playing at.

“Yeah, he’s still not there,” Arteta said. “Much better, and he’s hitting levels now that are serious but we can still take that player to another level.

“That’s my conviction, I told him in the dressing room he’s very good, he had a massive impact, he owned a lot of moments throughout the game, but there is still a lot to come.

“And a lot to come still in those relationships inside between the three midfielders.”

Bruno himself admitted to the media that it hadn’t necessarily been an easy game for him or the team, but that they were even happier to get the win in those circumstances.

“We had a tough game, they made it feel so difficult for us, but it’s impressive numbers (for Arsenal this season),” Bruno said. “We’ll keep going. We’ve been unbelievable.

“The message for us was clear in the dressing room. The last time we had a break, we lost to Brighton in one of the worst games of our season.

“The message here was to leave in a good way and go to our internationals happy.”

Bruno had been called up by Brazil for the November internationals, with his national team to face Japan and Singapore in a couple of friendly fixtures.

The Japan game is up first on Saturday, November 14th at 10:15 GMT, with the Singapore fixture on Tuesday, November 17th at 10:00 GMT.

Bruno and fellow Brazil international Gabriel Magalhaes will then have just a few days to fly back to Europe before that Saturday’s game against Bruno’s former club Newcastle United.
