Medical now authorised for £34m Arsenal signing

Club Brugge have authorised a medical for Christos Tzolis, with Arsenal having agreed a €40m fee to sign the 24-year-old winger.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal and Club Brugge have signed an agreement for the €40m (£34m) transfer of Christos Tzolis, with Brugge authorising the player to hold a medical.

Romano adds that Brugge approved the sale as their asking price was met, and Tzolis was only interested in joining the Gunners despite offers from several other clubs this month.

Tzolis will reportedly replace Leandro Trossard in the Arsenal squad, but the Gunners are also looking to sign another top wide option, with Morgan Rogers foremost among their options.

Sami Mokbel had reported for the BBC earlier in the day that Arsenal were set to table a formal €40m bid for Tzolis, having already verbally agreed the fee with Brugge.

The official offer was viewed as a formality, with personal terms also no issue. Once the bid was formally submitted, Mokbel expected the player to have a medical and sign a long-term deal, and it seems that bid has now gone through and been accepted.

Mokbel added that Andrea Berta has been working on the deal, with Arsenal recruitment specialist Maurizio Micheli watching Tzolis for Greece against Sweden last month. The winger set up Greece’s opening goal of the game on that occasion.

David Ornstein had initially broken the news of Arsenal’s €40m verbal agreement with Club Brugge, with Tzolis set to become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer. Illan Meslier’s arrival on a free transfer from Leeds United is the only other addition so far.

Tzolis admitted earlier this year that he’d like to join Arsenal, telling the media: “My future club? Haha, I don’t know! I hope that they (Arsenal) come for me. But honestly, I don’t know. If Arsenal come, it would be a privilege for every player to play for [them].”

The 24-year-old had an excellent season in Belgium in 2025/26, scoring 17 goals and assisting 23 in league football alone.

In all competitions, he racked up 51 goal contributions in 52 games, including five goal contributions in Champions League qualifiers and a further three in the competition proper.
