Villa star feels this is right time to leave amid Arsenal interest

Sources close to Morgan Rogers’ situation believe he understands this is the right time to leave Aston Villa, but there will be lots of clubs joining Arsenal in the race to sign him.

The Athletic report that Arsenal are just one of a number of clubs with an interest in Morgan Rogers, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain all also following the player this summer.

According to the claims, none of the above clubs are yet at the stage of discussing personal terms, though Arsenal are among the ones to have already reached out to Rogers’ camp.

Rogers is expected to assess his options soon, and there’s reportedly an understanding that this is the right time for him to move.

There’s no suggestion that Rogers is causing problems and pushing for an exit, with The Athletic reporting that sources close to the dressing room say he’s behaving impeccably.

But Villa are planning ahead, with several alternative targets in mind if the 23-year-old leaves.

Sami Mokbel reported for the BBC this week that multiple sources claim Rogers is open to joining Arsenal ahead of next season. Mokbel described Arsenal’s interest as “genuine”, suggesting the player is on the Gunners’ summer shortlist.

Yet the same report added that internal talks are being held over how the player would fit in the squad, given Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze are already there as attacking midfield options.

If Rogers were to join, perhaps it would be as a winger, another position he’s played quite a bit this season.

Rogers scored 14 goals and assisted another 12 this season, and he’s been called up to the England squad for the World Cup this summer.

Middlesbrough will be watching Rogers’ transfer situation closely, as they’re due 20% of the profit on the £15m they sold him to Villa for in 2024. As an example, a £100m deal would see Middlesbrough netting 20% of £85m, or £17m – which is more than they sold him for in the first place.
