Arsenal are becoming increasingly likely to make an offer to Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to a report from Portugal.
Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias reports (via Sport Witness) that Arsenal are becoming more attentive to Viktor Gyokeres, and a summer transfer offer is increasingly likely.
The Gunners have reportedly been impressed during their scouting outings to watch the striker so far, and they now hope to reach an agreement with Sporting in the upcoming window.
Arsenal aren’t the only Premier League club listed as being in the race, with Chelsea and Liverpool also reportedly interested in the centre-forward.
But Mikel Arteta’s transfer team are clearly very interested, and willing to include players in the deal on loan or permanently to bring Gyokeres’ €100m (£85.4m) release clause price down a bit.
The Portuguese outlet aren’t the first to report on Arsenal’s growing affections for Gyokeres.
Last month, Alex Crook reported for talkSPORT that Arsenal were showing a strong interest in the striker after making a centre-forward their priority summer signing. Crook claimed Gyokeres was now ahead of Ivan Toney on the club’s shortlist.
Fabrizio Romano also recently reported that Arsenal are monitoring Gyokeres, and that the player is on their shortlist.
Arsenal scouts have apparently watched Gyokeres in action multiple times, though they hadn’t made a final decision on their summer targets at that stage.
Gyokeres has 36 goals and 16 assists in 43 appearances for Sporting this season, helping them to the top of the Liga Portugal, as well as helping them into the final of the Portuguese cup. The 25-year-old scored or assisted in every round of the cup competition to reach the final.
