Arsenal are showing strong interest in Viktor Gyokeres and the Sporting CP striker is now ahead of Ivan Toney on their summer shortlist.
Alex Crook reports for talkSPORT that Arsenal have made a new centre-forward their top priority for the summer transfer window, and the Gunners are showing a strong interest in Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP.
Crook claims it’s now believed Gyokeres is ahead of Ivan Toney on Arsenal’s shortlist, and West Ham United may push for Toney instead.
Tom Canton of Football.London reports that Arsenal are following Gyokeres closely and hold an interest in his signing, though he’s not the only player they’re assessing for a centre-forward signing.
Canton agrees that a move for Toney is now less likely, with Arsenal focusing more on a younger striker profile. Toney is 28, Gyokeres is 25.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Arsenal are monitoring Gyokeres, and that the player is on their shorlist.
Arsenal scouts have apparently watched Gyokeres in action multiple times, though they haven’t made a final decision on their summer targets.
Gyokeres has a release clause set at €100m (£85.8m), assuming Sporting are unsuccessful in their attempts to hand the player a new contract and increase that figure.
Gyokeres has 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 games for Sporting this season, and he scored for Sweden against Portugal in his only game of the international break.
