Sporting CP are looking to extend the contract of Arsenal-linked Viktor Gyokeres and to increase his release clause, according to a report from Portugal.
A Bola report that Sporting CP want to extend Viktor Gyokeres’ contract and increase his release clause, with the striker attracting plenty of interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Gyokeres’ current release clause already stands at €100m (£86.2m), but Sporting are evidently keen to ensure they bring in even more than that if they sell their star man this summer.
But a new deal isn’t close as it stands, particularly with Gyokeres away on international duty at the moment.
Charles Watts reported in his Daily Briefing earlier this week that Gyokeres will be on Arsenal’s radar this summer. But with his relative top-level inexperience and his hefty release clause, he would be a gamble.
Watts concluded that the striker is worth keeping an eye on, and Arsenal will definitely be in the market for a centre-forward this summer.
“I don’t think much about the future,” Gyokeres said this week. “I want to win the league and the cup with Sporting. That’s what I put all my energy into in the club team.
“We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen.”
Previous reports from A Bola confirmed that Arsenal were scouting Sporting’s match against Benfica in February, so they’ve certainly got an eye on the striker.
Gyokeres has 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 games for Sporting this season, and he scored for Sweden against Portugal in his first match of the ongoing international break.
