In recent days, Arsenal have again been linked with a summer move for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres, with Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reporting that the Gunners are leading the race and willing to meet his €100m (£85.4m) release clause.

Gyokeres has responded to all the recent links by insisting that he’s focusing on his football, and he doesn’t know what might happen in the summer.

“I don’t think much about the future,” Gyokeres said. “I want to win the league and the cup with Sporting. That’s what I put all my energy into in the club team.

“We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen.

“I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly.”

Previous reports from fellow Portuguese outlet A Bola confirmed that Arsenal were scouting Sporting’s match against Benfica in February, so they’ve certainly got an eye on the striker.

Gyokeres has 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 games for Sporting this season, and his move from Championship side Coventry City is proving a masterstroke.

Things almost played out very differently for the striker, who was in the Championship play-offs last season.

Coventry made it all the way to a penalty shootout in the final. But they lost, and Gyokeres decided to make his step up to a top-flight league without them.

There’s no doubt that Gyokeres has taken his game to a new level this season, and he’s come a long way since his cup appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

Perhaps a move to the Premier League could be the next step for the Swedish international.
