Charles Watts reports that Nico Williams is high up on Arsenal’s list of potential targets this summer, along with Pedro Neto of Wolves. Those two are reportedly well ahead of Donyell Malen on the current shortlist.

Fabrizio Romano claims Williams has indeed been monitored by Arsenal, adding that the player has a €50m (£42.9m) release clause.

Though Arsenal aren’t the only club in the race, with Chelsea also scouting the player and many other clubs too.

Matt Law of The Telegraph recently reported that Williams’ release clause didn’t increase despite his new deal in December, adding that Chelsea were in the mix for a move.

But Law wrote that a Chelsea move for Williams may depend on outgoings, as the Blues also want a striker and may have to commit a lot of money to that pursuit.

Athletic Club seem to be preparing for Williams’ sale, sealing a deal for Alvaro Djalo of Braga as an apparent replacement.

That deal could be worth up to €20m, with Djalo joining on a contract to 2029.

Given Djalo and Williams are similar in age and position, it does look like a strange investment if Williams remains at his current club this summer.

Williams has scored six goals and provided 13 assists in 29 appearances for Athletic Club this season. The 21-year-old is also a fully-fledged Spain international, with 13 caps and six goal contributions under his belt.
