For the time being, the mainstream media remain quiet on a potential new deal for the right-back, but it wouldn’t be a suprise to see the player signing on, in light of everything that’s been reported recently.
One report from Charlie Wyett earlier this week suggested White was “extremely close” to a new deal, adding that it could be done this month.
The Telegraph reported in mid-February that Arsenal were keen to tie White down to a new long-term contract, and after months of discussions, talks were finally at an advanced stage.
According to that report, it was expected that the Gunners would indeed reach an agreement with the defender.
Fabrizio Romano then wrote in his Daily Briefing that whilst White’s new deal wasn’t done yet, it was advanced. Talks have been ongoing since October.
The defender himself then gave an encouraging update on his future when speaking to Sky Sports last week.
“Yeah, definitely,” White responded when asked if his future was at Arsenal. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
“I’m very settled and all my family are here. It’s an amazing place to live and obviously playing for Arsenal tops it off.”
White already has a deal until 2026, but the club are being proactive in negotiations.
As it stands, White earns around £120,000 a week, but he’d receive a significant increase with his new deal.
White has proven a key player for Mikel Arteta since signing from Brighton and Hove Albion, playing 121 times for the Gunners.
The defender has made 38 appearances (33 starts) for Arsenal this season.
