Chelsea still aren’t working on a deal to sign Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, according to a report, despite continuing links in the media.
Dean Jones reported for Sports Lens last week that sources believe Chelsea will be one to watch in the race for Aaron Ramsdale this summer, with the Blues expected to sell Robert Sanchez.
But Fabrizio Romano has played down the rumours, claiming there’s still nothing to report.
Romano writes in his Daily Briefing that he was told in January that Chelsea have no interest in Ramsdale, and as it stands the club are not working on a deal for the Arsenal goalkeeper – or indeed any other goalkeeper.
There were links between Ramsdale and Chelsea ahead of the January window, but Romano reported at the time that the goalkeeper wasn’t on Chelsea’s shortlist.
He added that Arsenal were happy to continue with Ramsdale and Raya until the end of the season, with no plans to sell one of their goalkeeper mid-campaign.
So it proved, with Ramsdale sticking around at Arsenal despite reliable reports of an enquiry from Nottingham Forest.
It was no real surprise to see Arsenal turn down that enquiry, even if David Raya is clearly the first choice goalkeeper at the club.
Arsenal clearly rate Ramsdale highly, and they weren’t going to let a great second-choice goalkeeper leave with the Premier League and Champions League trophies still on the line.
If things continue the way they have been, it seems inevitable Ramsdale will end up leaving over the next few transfer windows. But Arsenal will want to sign a strong replacement first.
