Arsenal could have an advantage with any move for star Bundesliga striker Victor Boniface this summer, given the player’s personal allegiances.
Arsenal were linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface earlier this month, though any realistic chance of a transfer is more likely in the summer, when the Gunners have more money to work with.
If such a move ever does come about, it looks like the player will be more than keen on the switch.
Football.London reported earlier this month that Boniface is an Arsenal fan, and the player himself went on to confirm as much in a podcast interview.
“For me, right from a young age, I’ve supported Arsenal all my life,” Boniface said.
Boniface is one of Europe’s top in-form strikers at the moment, having scored 16 goals and assisted a further eight in 23 games this season.
17 of those goal contributions have come in his 16 Bundesliga appearances, five in his five Europa League games, and two in his two German Cup matches.
That’s an outstanding record, and a big driving force behind Leverkusen’s fantastic record this season.
The team sit top of the league, into the Europa League knockout stages, and the quarter-finals of the cup.
Perhaps Granit Xhaka could be Arsenal’s other edge in a potential transfer saga, if he’d put in a good word, having moved Leverkusen last summer.
But for the time being, Boniface will be focusing on getting fit, as he’s currently out with an Adductor injury.
Boniface’s injury record is the one big stain on his record, having already had two ACL tears in his career. If he can stay fit, he’s clearly a threat.
