Charles Sagoe Jr. is starring for the Arsenal youth teams this season, on either side of his recent debut for the senior side.

Charles Sagoe Jr. got his moment in the limelight with the Arsenal first team recently, making a start for Mikel Arteta’s side in the League Cup win over Brentford in late September.

But the forward hasn’t rested on his laurels since then, and he was at the heart of the Arsenal u21s’ big win over Exeter City earlier this week.

Sagoe Jr. first showed his determination to get ahead of his man in the box and turn home a cross from Jack Henry-Francis for 1-0, prodding in from close range.

The teenager then turned provider, pouncing on a loose ball, beating his man, and playing in Seb Ferdinand to score Arsenal’s second.

Though the match finished 5-0, it was very much in the balance for the first hour. It was only after Sagoe Jr.’s contributions in the 61st and 79th minutes that the floodgates really opened.

Sagoe Jr. has now provided seven goal contributions in his last eight games for the academy, including a hat-trick of assists away at Manchester United.

Yet there remains little fanfare around the player, despite his strong form and the recognition of his progress by club staff involved with the senior side.

As well as his recent debut, Sagoe Jr. was involved in first-team training ahead of the match against Manchester City last week.

Perhaps the winger’s game isn’t flashy enough, or his steady progress not exciting enough to make headlines. He hasn’t burst onto the scene, he’s simply improved year on year.

Sagoe Jr. probably won’t mind though, as long as he keeps getting recognition from the people at the club who really count.
