Arsenal have been tracking Pedro Neto amid a growing sense that multiple top clubs will be in for the winger in 2024.
Fabrizio Romano reports that there is a feeling that in 2024 we will see important clubs coming in for Neto, and he confirms that Arsenal have been tracking the player.
The Gunners reportedly know Neto very well and wanted him last year, but they aren’t the only ones. A number of clubs are considering Neto as a transfer target.
Romano suggests there’s no clarity on a potential price, partly because Wolves wouldn’t even entertain negotiations over the summer.
Neto was considered untouchable in the most recent window, so it’s difficult to say how much Wolves might want if and when they do hold talks for a sale.
Ryan Taylor recently reported for the Mirror that Arsenal might have to pay up to £60m for Neto, but that figure hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere.
In September, John Percy wrote for The Telegraph that Arsenal had made an enquiry with Wolves over Neto in the summer.
At the time it wasn’t clear what Wolves’ response had been, only that Arsenal had evidently decided not to pursue the transfer, with significant funds invested elsewhere in the squad.
But Romano’s update suggests Wolves would have simply shut Arsenal down at the first approach.
Neto was linked with Arsenal throughout the summer of 2022, but the Gunners were ultimately priced out of a move.
The 23-year-old was tempted by the transfer, as a self-proclaimed boyhood fan of the club, but it never came to be.
An international with Portugal, Neto has made a strong start to the season, providing four assists and scoring once in his opening seven games.
Given his recent injury struggles, Neto will also be glad simply to have played 90 minutes in seven consecutive fixtures.
Last season, Neto only completed 90 minutes in two Wolves games, and he only managed one assist all year.
