Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey have both been ruled out of Arsenal’s match against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus put in a fantastic performance against Sevilla in midweek, providing a goal and an assist for the Gunners, but the appearance was marred by fears of an injury setback for the Brazilian.
Jesus told TNT Sports: “I felt something. Let’s see. I did some tests with the physio, it looks not that big, but let’s see. I have a scan, maybe tomorrow. I’m pretty sure it will be nothing.”
But Mikel Arteta didn’t seem so confident at the time, saying: “He felt something in his hamstring.
“He straight away asked to be subbed, which is not good news, because he’s not the kind of player who does that. So we’ll have to wait and see in the next few days.”
The bad news has now been confirmed, with Arteta telling a press conference on Friday: “The scan showed there is a muscle injury. We might lose him for a few weeks. With Gabi, I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us.”
Arsenal travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United next weekend, and it looks like Jesus will now miss that game too.
In other injury news, Thomas Partey isn’t set to return to action this weekend, as the problem that ruled him out against Sevilla hasn’t yet cleared up. He’s also set to miss a few weeks.
Considering Sheffield United’s position at the bottom of the league and their own extensive injury list, Arsenal can have no excuses on Saturday, even though Jesus isn’t fit to start.
This is a must-win game, and Arsenal have plenty of other forwards to turn to.
