Ace – In a game of Blackjack, an Ace can be worth a value of either one or eleven. The player holding the Ace within their hand gets to decide which value the Ace represents for their hand.

Anchorman – This refers to the player who is sat the furthest to the right of the dealer. This position at the table is known by some players as the most advantageous, as this allows the player to see all the cards that have been dealt to all other players on the table before being dealt their own. The anchorman is usually the last player at the table to act on each hand.

Bankroll – This is the name given to the amount of credits a player has set aside for the sole purpose of wagering on Blackjack.

Blackjack – Not only is this the name of the game, it’s also a winning hand you, or another player at the table, could be dealt in a game of Blackjack.

A Blackjack hand is essentially a winning hand with the value of 21, comprised of the two cards initially dealt to you, or the player, by the dealer. This hand will need to consist of an Ace paired with a royal card – J, Q, K – or a Ten of any suit. This is due to the fact that Tens, Js, Qs and Ks all hold a value of ten, whilst the Ace holds a value of both one and eleven – for this to work, you would need to choose the value of eleven.

Burn Card – A Burn Card is the card at the top of the deck that gets instantly discarded, rather than dealt, to help keep gameplay fair and unbiased.

Bust – This is a word no player wants to hear, or have it referred to in their gameplay. This term, in Blackjack, means that the player’s hand has gone over the value of 21. When this happens, the player will automatically lose, regardless of what the dealer’s hand holds.

Hand – This term is used to describe the first two cards dealt to a player by the dealer.

Hit – This is a phrase used by players when they require another card added to their hand, to help them get closer to 21.

Stand – This is a phrase used by players when they wish to stick with their hand and require no further cards from the dealer. This signals to the dealer that it’s now their turn to reveal their cards.
