Atletico Madrid have made an enquiry for Wilfried Zaha, as free-transfer links to Arsenal appear to fade.

Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Atletico Madrid have enquired about a potential move for Wilfried Zaha, who has until the end of June to decide whether to accept Crystal Palace’s latest contract offer.

Palace are offering a new long-term contract worth around £200,000 per week, which Zaha is seriously considering.

But the 30-year-old is taking his time over a decision, and the chance to play in the Champions league with Atletico is said to appeal to him.

Though Zaha also has offers from outside Europe, including Saudi Arabia, he may favour a move to La Liga or a stay in the Premier League – due to his desire to keep playing at the top level.

Back in April, Arsenal were linked with a move to sign Zaha on the expiry of his Palace contract.

RMC Sport reported that Arsenal, Chelsea, and Marseille were on the shortlist of interested clubs, with the Premier League clubs viewed as favourites due to Marseille’s financial difficulties.

The Daily Mail claimed Arsenal were a potential suitor if Zaha’s contract extension talks didn’t pan out, particularly with the player so keen on European football.

A free transfer move also didn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility, freeing up funds to pursue players in key positions like midfield.

But Arsenal links to Zaha have been fading in recent weeks.

Initially, there were reports that the Gunners favoured Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby as a primary target.

Then, in the wake of the news that Reiss Nelson may be set to extend his Arsenal contract, the pursuit of a wide forward took a back seat altogether.

For the time being, it appears Atletico Madrid are the favourites to land Ivory Coast international Zaha.
