Ivan Fresneda has admitted he likes Mikel Arteta as a coach, but he’s also happy with his current coaches at Real Valladolid.

Ivan Fresneda was linked with Arsenal throughout the January transfer window, ultimately opting to remain with Real Valladolid for at least the remainder of the season.

But speculation has started to resurface over a possible summer move, prompting one reporter for The Athletic to ask Fresneda whether he sees Mikel Arteta’s style of play as similar to Valladolid’s.

“I like Arteta a lot because I think he’s a great coach; I follow the European leagues and I think the work he’s doing with his club is fantastic,” Fresneda responded.

“But now with Pezzolano and before with Pacheta we do that style of play, and that style is the one I like the most.

“I love the style we try, to press high, to have the ball, to look for space, and to attack.”

Speaking to Marca last week, Fresneda insisted his primary goals remain succeeding with Real Valladolid and playing for Spain, but he doesn’t know what the summer holds.

“I want to succeed at Valladolid achieving their goals, and my biggest dream in the long term is playing with the national team,” Fresneda said then. “I don’t know what will happen with my future in the summer.”

Reports in February suggested that Arsenal are joined by Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, and Juventus in the race for Fresneda this summer.

The defender will sit down with his representatives at the end of the season to make a decision on a potential move.

Fresneda has a release clause of £26.5m, and Valladolid are hoping to spark a bidding war to get close to that price.

Fabrizio Romano had previously claimed that the Gunners had sent scouts to watch Fresneda regularly, after showing an interest in the Real Valladolid man in January.
