On Wednesday, Matt Turner became the sixth Arsenal player called up by his country for the World Cup, with the USMNT naming him in their 26-man squad for the tournament.

Turner was in the Arsenal squad for the Brighton game on Wednesday night, so he would have found out the news in the dressing room after the game.

The goalkeeper posted “see you in Qatar” on his Instagram story, along with a video from his partner of his young baby looking happy wearing the U.S. kit.

Unfortunately, compatriot and Arsenal teammate Auston Trusty – currently on loan at Birmingham City – missed out on the squad.

Writing on Twitter after the announcement, Trusty admitted his disappointment, before getting behind the team.

Would have loved to be on the plane, but all in God’s timing,” Trusty said. “Wishing all the best to the USMNT squad in Qatar! Make us all proud! USA #TrustyTheProcess”

Turner joins Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus (Brazil), Takehiro Tomiyasu (Japan), Granit Xhaka (Switzerland), and William Saliba (France) to receive a call-up, with more likely to come in the next few days.

Former Gunners Takuma Asano (Japan), Olivier Giroud and Matteo Guendouzi (France), Yunus Musah (United States), Joel Campbell (Costa Rica), Mat Ryan (Australia), and Aaron Ramsey (Wales) have also all been called up.

There should be further Arsenal call-ups today, with England announcing their squad at 2pm GMT.

Portugal and Belgium are long shots for any Arsenal call-ups, but their squads are also being revealed on Thursday.
