William Saliba’s superb 2022 has been rewarded by his country with a call-up for the World Cup in Qatar that starts later this month.

Saliba has just seven caps for his country.

It makes him the 5th Arsenal player to receive a call up for the tournament.

Saliba joins Granit Xhaka of Switzerland, Takehiro Tomiyasu of Japan and Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus of Brazil in the early World Cup call-ups, with the potential for more Arsenal players to follow on Wednesday.

Saliba is joined in the France squad by former Arsenal players Matteo Guendouzi and Olivier Giroud.

And, as OptaJean tells us, “Hugo Lloris has been named in a fourth different World Cup squad, equalling the record by a French player (Thierry Henry in 1998, 2002, 2006 & 2010).”

France 25-man squad for the World Cup:

Lloris, Mandanda, Areola Saliba, Konaté, Upamecano, Varane, Pavard, L. Hernandez, T. Hernandez, F. Mendy, Kimpembe Tchouameni, Y. Fofana, Rabiot, Guendouzi, Veretout, Camavinga Benzema, Mbappé, Griezmann, Dembele, Coman, Nkunku, Giroud
