Arsenal are reportedly going to place a bid for Danilo in the ‘coming weeks’ according to a report from Brazil.

Just a few days ago, Fabrizio Romano said there was no change in Arsenal’s pursuit of Palmeiras’ midfielder, Danilo.

Now, Jorge Nicola in Brazil claims he has spoken to the player’s representatives and asked about Arsenal’s interest.

Nicola says he was told that Danilo’s camp are aware that Arsenal are still monitoring the player they reportedly placed a €20m bid for in the summer.

He then adds that Danilo’s people said Arsenal “should place an official bid after the World Cup group stage.”

Whether that ‘should’ is a suggestion or expectation is impossible to tell, but it is a key difference.

A suggestion means that Danilo’s reps are still trying to sell their client.

An expectation means that Arsenal have told them they will make a bid.

Though why, if Arsenal have done that, they feel the need to wait until after the group stages is also not clear. Danilo has been named on the bench for one of Brazil’s two games during the World Cup so far, would an offer really be that much of a distraction?

Perhaps they are waiting for the Agents Gabriel to work their magic behind the scenes with him.

It is worth noting that Romano has previously spoken about Arsenal’s good relationship with Danilo’s reps.

Arsenal are expected to try and reinforce three positions during the January transfer window – midfield, right wing and left-sided centreback.
